More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have been working with children since about the time I turned 14 or so by taking care of my younger cousins while their parents were at work, and you can pretty well guess that I was the default sitter for my family friends as well, spending time regularly babysitting children of all ages. I also volunteered at a daycare that my mother's good friend, Joann, ran. I helped in all aspects from play and activity time, through to snacks and routine. All of these experiences laid a solid foundation for me on how to handle lots of children at once, the variation between children in terms of needs, personality and responsiveness as well as considering the larger group of children, and the need to provide an environment for the children that is safe, enhances their experience of play and the opportunity to feel supported and have fun at the same tim
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy creating doing fun activities with the children that are creative, developmentally appropriate, and engaging. Some of my favourite things to do with children include arts and crafts, playing outside, reading storybooks, baking a simple snack, and playing pretend games. I enjoy getting involved in homework and putting together learning activities that make learning fun. Whether it is building with blocks, doing experiments, playing make-believe, I just try to make it fun and meaningful in any way possible.
The most important part about being a nanny...
To me, the most important part of being a nanny is building meaningful bonds with the children. I strive to be more than just a caregiver, I want to be someone they can trust, learn from, and have fun with. I love being that consistent presence who feels like a best friend and someone they can count on for support, play, and guidance. Creating that kind of connection helps children feel safe, seen, and genuinely cared for, which I believe is the heart of great childcare
My experience with special needs children...
I as well have experience in working with children with special needs. While in high school, and summers I was in California, I was a volunteer for a program called Best Buddies. Best Buddies is a program that connects volunteers and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities for the purpose of friendship and inclusion. I built beautiful friendships in the Best Buddies program and gained invaluable experience in patience, empathy, and adapting speech and activities to meet each child’s individual needs.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my most meaningful nanny moments happened recently when I went back home for the weekend and babysat my two cousins, who are 5 and 11. I brought along some arts and crafts for us to do together, and during our time creating, the younger one, Kinley, made a “key” and told me, “This way you can come over and see us every day and you don’t have to leave.” It completely melted my heart. I’ve been caring for them since Kinley was around 18 months old, so hearing that reminded me of the strong bond we’ve built over the years. Moments like that make me so grateful for the connections I get to create through caregiving
