I have babysat for the 4–6-year-old daughter of one of my mom's friends. I would babysit on and off, mainly over the summer starting from around 7am to around 3pm. Rarely I would stay until her bedtime to put her to bed. I did this for about three years; from 15-17 years old.
The most important part about being a nanny...
To me the most important part is connecting with and keeping the kids safe. I value not only for the kid(s) I care for to be seen and heard, but also to protect them from anything/anyone harmful. For kids they have only been in this world for a little bit of time considering their ages, everything is so new and interesting to them. So, what they have to say is extremely important to me, and that they feel connected with me on a personal level. If and when a parent(s) is willing to put their trust in me it's extremely important I keep it, as they putting faith in me to care for their kids.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I was sitting with the girl I was babysitting, Sofie, on the couch while we looked out the window. She was observing the band kids at my high school across the street practicing outside. At some point Sofie brought up how she thinks her older brother doesn't like her and is always annoyed with her. I proceeded to tell her that wasn't true and tried to explain certain reasons as to why he maybe said/did the things he did. Randomly after I spoke to her, she said that I was her best friend and that she has so much fun with me. This happened three years ago around the time I only just recently started babysitting her and this memory has stuck with me since.
