The most important part about being a nanny...
I think it is always important for every nanny to remember these are not your children. Our job is to step in as another adult and care for them just as their parents would. My number one priority is safety. I will always do things the way the parent does and the way they have instructed me to do so as that is how we will have the best outcomes. My own opinions are not present when caring for someone else’s child. However, I have a lot of training on best practices for sleep, eating, playing, etc. so I am always able to default to the best practice if needed. I am also happy to help with advice or recommendations but only when asked!
My experience with special needs children...
I worked for two years [phone number hidden]) as a certified nurse assistant. My license has since expired but I gained experience in caring for catheters, ostomies, mobility difficulties, and behavioral issues. I also have experience in caring for children with ASD, OCD, as well as helping families during the very stressful and unknown process of getting a diagnosis, and therefore before we know exactly how to best help a child.
