The most important part about being a nanny to me is creating a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for the child. Ensuring that there is trust between not only me and the child but the parents to form a positive and harmonious family dynamic. As a nanny I feel a strong responsibility to care for the child and its emotional, social, and cognitive development.
My experience with special needs children...
At Happy Horizons Day Care, I had cared for a child (Age 4) non-Verbal and very aggressive towards others and him self. I was able to form a connection with him and care to his needs. In addition, during my high school career I was in a program called buddy club. It was specifically geared to supporting kids with special needs and autism. We would comfort, support and engage in regular activities with them.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment was when the child I was caring for had taken her first steps. I had just taken off her dirty diaper and went to throw it away, to my surprise she sprung up and took her first few steps. It was a monumental event that I am grateful to have experienced.
