More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been a camp counselor and program director for the past year. I'd work with 10-12 kids a week, on top of scheduling and creating an outdoor educational program for them to experience.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love being active and doing outdoor activities. My favorite sport is soccer, but I enjoy all of them.

I love watching movies, and the last kid I worked with got me hooked on Paw Patrol. However, I prefer coloring and board games. : )

The most important part about being a nanny...

Being emotionally available. Happiness is so important in everyone's lives, not just kids. It's also important to feel things other than happiness. Sometimes we are just sad, and that's it. Furthermore, teaching them how to react in certain situations can lead to having a healthy relationship with oneself.

My experience with special needs children...

I participated in a program at my high school that partnered general education students with special education students in a altered physical education class. As general education students we were responsible for adapting the activities we did in order to have the most inclusive environment for a PE classroom.

I also worked with a differently-abled kid (and friend) throughout the summer which included learning about chores and finding accessible recreational activities. I also administered medicine and was trained to deal with seizures and first-aid accidents.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of the kids I was working with was doing homework, and I did my homework along side her so that she didn't feel like she needed to rush. I was working on an advanced geometry course and she was having some trouble with decimals. They had just started adding and subtracting them in her 2nd grade class. When I tried to help her with her homework she told me that she was smarter than me because, and I quote, "We already did shapes in kindergarten, so I'm ahead of you." Needless to say, I always do my homework alone now.
