In middle and high school I volunteered to mentor elementary aged children and middle school aged children. I regularly took care of/babysat family members, and I have babysat for a previous boss of mine who had a minimally special needs toddler.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
For indoor activities I love to draw, read (or attempt to teach some new words!), building activities (forts, blocks, legos, you name it! Kids learn a lot from seeing things topple over), and creative story telling. For outdoor activities, I enjoy “exploring our environment” (looking for and trying to identify bugs/plants, finding cool rocks, etc.), playing little sports, and messy activities like drawing with chalk!
My experience with special needs children...
So far, only some children with autism. I don’t have tons of experience with special needs but I’m more than willing to learn!
