1. Learning about the child as an individual and figuring out how they view what you're doing with them.
2. Lining up with the family's flow and schedule so that the child has consistency.

My experience with special needs children...

My classroom was considered "integrated" so about 50% of our class was comprised of special needs and IEP students. I have also volunteered in the "severe and profound" self-contained (special needs) classroom which children all ranges of needs and abilities.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I was caring for a young brother and sister pair. We were watching the Karate Kid and he was a huge fan! We were playing karate after the movie and I (wearing socks on a hardwood floor) kicked a bit too high and flipped myself off of my feet. It didn't feel good at the time but it is hilarious looking back now. The boy was thoroughly entertained and we kept going the next day.
