Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I practice what I preach, and lead by example. I promote healthy eating and living habits, including daily delicious fruit and veggie shakes, exercise, and gratitude. I never leave a play area messy, always getting the children to help clean up any toys or mess before moving on to the next activity. I love swim, hike, climb, bike, ride, walk, practice yoga, and every other type of exercise and movement. Having taught preschool for 5 years+, I have endless amounts of ideas for crafts, projects, and rainy day indoor fun.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Connection, compassion, love, leadership, patience, commitment.
When I work with a family, I am 100% present for the children. I get down on the ground, speak in a calm, clear voice, and guide children to begin to live their best lives possible. This begins by learning hugely important lessons from an early age. Lessons of kindness, sharing, compassion, friendship, love, and empathy are big topics worthy of a lifetime of study. I incorporate these ideas into our everyday experience by constantly reminding the children of ways to spread joy and positivity through mindful actions. By leading by example, I teach children the power of being bale to regulate the breath. Any meltdown or tantrum can be quickly diffused by taking 5 slow deep breaths. My fellow teachers have been amazed at my ability to teach kids of all ages, even babies, how to access their own deep breath, to help learn to self soothe and self regulate, perhaps the most important lesson we can teach our littles ones.

My experience with special needs children...
After teaching and living in the Peace Corps in Guatemala, I moved back home to provide end of life care for both of my parents. I spent the next 4 years caring for my mother and father as they made their transition from this world. This included everything from medication schedules and administering, doctor visits, pharmacy coordination, transportation, cooking, cleaning, dressing, and emotional support.
I worked 1 on 1 with a 23 year old with severe autism, caring for him in every way, from food prep to cleaning after self defecating.
I taught fitness and tumbling at a special needs summer camp.
I have worked with many special needs children during my time teaching in the preschool, taking time to develop individual connections with each of them and all of my students.

The most important part about being a nanny...
I have been nannying for an 18 month old boy recently. He is awesome, AND a handful at times, like all little boys should be. I have been teaching him and showing him how to take deep breaths all the time: before we eat our food, deep breath; when we fall down and get a bump, deep breath; when we want to ask for something, deep breath, when we are melting down, deep breath; etc.
One morning, he was having a tough time and feeling frustrated that he couldn't get his puzzle piece to fit in the proper spot. He started to cry. Instead of reacting, I centered myself first with a calm, gentle breath. I then said to him, you look like you are feeling frustrated because you can't get your puzzle to fit, can we take 5 deep breaths together and calm down a bit, and then try the puzzle again? He looked at me through his tears and nodded yes. We began to take our deep breaths, and by the time we got to 5, he was revived. Tears were gone and a smile was on his face. He leaned in for a hug. Bliss!

Babysitter Available in Austin, TX: Zahraa F.
Hi! I’m Zahraa Fadhel, and I’ve always loved working with kids because every day is different, fun, and full of energy. I enjoy being someone children can feel comfortable around while also creating a safe, positive environment for them to grow and have fun. Whether it’s playing games, helping with homework, or just being someone they can talk to, I love building those connections. I have over 4 years of experience working with children ages 2–13. I’ve been a camp counselor, where I supervised large groups of kids, led activities, and made sure everyone stayed safe and included. I’ve also worked one-on-one with students in school programs, helping with learning, routines, and social skills. In addition, I’ve babysat for multiple families, caring for 1–3 children at a time and managing meals, bedtime, and daily activities. I’m patient, organized, and dependable, and I’m comfortable handling both high-energy situations and calmer routines. I’m also CPR/First Aid trained.
