I have watched over 2 children on and off for around a year and a half. I also have a 2 year old nephew that I used to live with and watch after when necessary. I have experience with overnights, out door trips, etc.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I am very flexible so if there's an activity not listed, I am most likely very open to trying it out with the kids. I love taking children to the outdoors and exploring with them safely. I always have fun with park time, water fall adventures and baking! Most of the time I do prefer to listen to the kids and hear what they would like to do, of course as long as I feel it is safe for them as well as practical for the parents.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of the most important parts about being a nanny is the ability to help lead children towards a positive attitude. Although I am a young adult now, growing up I was not able to process my emotions extremely well and I think the lack of a role model aided in that. Over the time span that I have spent nannying, I have learned how impressionable children can be and how important it is to be a role model and help guide children to a path of self-acceptance, self-love, positivity, understanding, and independence. Although I recognize the job is to watch the children, I think it is important to set good examples and teach valuable lessons when it is appropriate. Over the time span that I worked with two children, I saw the youngest become more willing to share her belongings, soothe her tantrums, and listen to others. Of course I would never credit that to only myself but I learned to reinforce the positive behaviors she had learned,I believe that is extremely important in being a nanny.
My experience with special needs children...
I have not worked with special needs children however I am very willing to learn and adjust!
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my most memorable moments was with an 8 year old girl I watch after. We had gone to the park and she was feeling very down because she missed her parents, I sat down and talked with her about how she felt and what I could do to help her feel better. After some time I was able to calm her down and she gave me a really tight hug. Knowing that I could help her process her emotions in a healthy way and create a positive environment for her felt extremely rewarding.
