More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have 2 brothers who have 5 children from 2-8 years old that I take care of often for the past 5+ years. I have had many babysitting jobs in my neighborhood growing up. My younger brother was born when I was 12 and I was his sole sitter when my parents were away, whether it was work or vacation for multiple days. I have a 13-year-old daughter that I raised on my own, I also managed and worked in a group home with Autistic adults who were at the 4-12 yr. age range mentally due to their disability, which also required the needed attention and skills of taking care of young children.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy coming up with projects/crafts to do according to their age and abilities. I love creating scavenger hunts and games that also incorporate fun with learning. I love imaginative play, building forts, making slime and other inventions. I love the outdoors, hikes, swimming, bike riding, sports, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and just whatever the children enjoy doing. I love to do things that they normally wouldn't do based on their personality, age, interest, and the amount of time that we have.
The most important part about being a nanny...
First is safety of the children and awareness of what is going on at all times, second would be forming a bond of trust and security with the children, as well as the parent/parents so they are not sad, lonely or feel scared when parents leave. Then of course the fun and teaching that we get to do once they feel safe and are comfortable.
My experience with special needs children...
I did peer tutor while in high school, I have had Child Development classes in high school as well as college, I managed a group home and worked as direct support with autistic individuals in a few group homes. I worked in 2, day placement centers with varying ages and disabilities. Most of the people I do have experience with were older than children but they're mental capacity is at a child's level. My job duties have consisted of working through the programs set up for them and documenting on them, dealing with their behaviors according to their BX plan. Passing out medications, helping them cook, clean, bath, use the toilet etc. All of these skills are correlated with taking care of fully capable children as well.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My #1 favorite moments while taking care of children has always been seeing them proud of themselves when you are able to teach them something new and they apply it. I would have to say overall, seeing the excitement on their faces when they accomplish something that they have never been able to do before that they taught themselves, come running to you with pure joy on their faces and just being proud of themselves.
