I noticed a child was always on his own, would barely eat during lunch. I tried a few days to build trust then I would go out on break with him and play games outside, I became his friend and supported him in lunch too. I let the parents know what I noticed and they were happy.

My ability to foster a healthy relationship with the child(ren) and parents, love, patience and always staying on guard to monitor what is going on around you. Sometimes it takes a minute for something to go wrong and without proper monitoring , a lot could potentially happen.
My experience with special needs children...
In school, I work as an EA, we plan games and other activities to build life skills. Sometimes, If there are escalations, we try our best to contain the situation - acknowledging and verbally redirecting them. I have personally noticed that the best time to talk to them is when they are happy. I would tell them how their actions made me feel or what risks are associated with whatever they did. They listen when they are calm and we would have a better conversation.
The most important part about being a nanny...
On my second day at work, I helped put the baby to bed after I fed her. I did not know if the baby was going to warm up to me at the time but I played with her a lot on my first day to build rapport then made her favourite meal. Her mother was so pleased with me. It made me really happy because she had planned to come down about that time to support me.
