This may have not been a nanny moment but when I was a teacher I had a 12 year old brother and his younger 7 year old brother in a class together, the oldest gets overwhelmed and upset at his brother and surrounding kids easily. With knowing this I slowly built up his trust by providing him a safe space with activities and snacks everyday. Once his brother came to try to be with him, and he quickly got overwhelmed and tried to hit his brother, but when he saw me walk in between he stopped and we've talked about different tools to use and he quickly took deep Breaths and sat back down. That has to be a favorite because a child I worked closely with was starting to feel calm and safe enough with me to use his tools and be in a safe space without his guard up. That is my ultimate goal for every child is to help them feel safe.
