A little bit about me

My name is Jil Sandy and I’m 25 years old. I've been living in California for almost 3 years.
I came here with Cultural Care as an Aupair in 2019. The Aupair experience was the best time in my life. I grew so much as a person and learned a lot about myself.
I came to this country all by myself which made me really independent and mature for my age. I'm originally from Germany. I grew up in Dresden, a beautiful city in the east. I'm fluent in German and English as well. Back in Germany I have a lovely Family.
I grew up with a single mom and my 2 younger siblings.
When my mom got really sick in 2018 I took care of my younger sister so she could focus on her healing process. I'm a really open minded and loving person.
I start everyday with a smile and just make the most out of everything. I have a lot of energy and I’m always respectful with everyone around me and my environment.

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Before I being an Aupair I helped my mom with my little sister.
The activities as an Aupair go hand in hand as those of a Nanny. I started early in the morning. I prepared the lunchboxes and woke up the kids so they could get ready for school. I made breakfast, helped them to get dressed and drove them to school. While they were in school, I cleaned the kitchen, made sure their rooms and the house looked clean, did their laundry. I also helped the family with groceries and daily chores. After I picked up the kids from school I made sure they did their homework as independently as possible and if needed I would step in and help them. Some days they had activities. And on other days I did activities with them. I gave them baths or showers and served them dinner. When needed I brought them to bed. I had a little ritual with them which included reading bedtime stories and singing songs. I gain some more experiences while I was working as a Nanny for an amazing family with 3 kids recently.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy being creative with kids. I encourage them with their imagination because I believe it's important and a beautiful way to express themself, and to learn how to express feelings in a healthy and friendly way. I love doing arts and crafts with kids, coloring and building. I always try to find a special and unique connection to every kid. For example, I came up with stories about their stuffed animals. We wrote our own stories or we came up with our own fun songs. I also enjoy being active and playing outside with kids. I did a lot of sports myself and I enjoy this with kids. We played lots of basketball, soccer, tennis. But we also invented our own versions of hide and seek or were running around and chasing each other with their stuffed animals. There are so many amazing ways to encourage kids to be active.I personally think it's essential that kids move their body and use up all their energy. I also enjoyed some calm activities like baking, reading books or playing board games.

The most important part about being a nanny...

It's important to be a really responsible and organized person. Kids need a routine and as a Nanny you have to lead them through the day. It's important to take being with the kids really seriously. Trustworthy is essential as a Nanny as I take care of another person's life. Especially a child learning how life works. It’s up to me to lead as an example and role model. I know children I care for will look up to me. One thing which is really important to me is children see me as an authority figure, that gives them guidance through their life but also as a friend that they can trust and tell all their secrets to. I believe this is the most important part of being a great Nanny.

My experience with special needs children...

My previous Host family didn’t have any special needs children. I gained some experience while I was babysitting for a kid who had asthma. Therefore, I always made sure while we were doing sports that he took his breaks and took deep breaths. I was always really careful with him and made sure I had his medication with me.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I enjoyed my work with the kids so much and this is why I want to be a Nanny.
I really like working with kids. I feel so good to see their progress and to be part of their lives. It's truly a gift to see them grow and build their own personalities as an individual. Being a Nanny is a huge responsibility and an honor to help raise kids with good morals and good values. I see that kids are our future and I want to be a part of making our world a better place. It's a really priceless feeling when a kid is learning from you and giving you a lot of trust, love and appreciation back. I feel I'm really doing something good everyday. And it's beautiful seeing I can love kids which are not my own exactly as much as I do my siblings. Since I worked with kids I always feel It develops my own creativity which I like a lot. It's a new challenge everyday to come up with something that kids enjoy.
