I worked at a childcare center as the infant teacher. I have had field experience at several centers as well as middle/high school for my degree. I’ve nannied for two families and babysat for a couple others.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love to play outside with any age group! Walks are always great for curious minds. For each age, I love to do a variety of things outside. It can range from sensory play to bike rides! Indoors, I love to read books and do fine motor activities such as arts and crafts! I really like card and board games for older children, and age appropriate video games!
The most important part about being a nanny...
I believe treating children with respect as you would anyone is very important as a caregiver. Children’s minds are growing so rapidly and they are learning to navigate this world. They understand so much around them. Children learn through others. I believe that nurturing a child with respect will help them to become respectful and kind adults. Children are little humans that are grasping onto everything and it is so rewarding to help them understand the world around them. I want children to be heard and feel safe, but also that the parents trust me and feel respected.
My experience with special needs children...
I have had a few times I’ve gotten to work with special needs children. I helped children with learning disabilities read through an elementary school. At a childcare center I worked in, I cared for two autistic children, one of them who was non verbal. I have experience with sensory processing disorder and speech delays in children.
