A little bit about me

I’m a mom, grandmother, and retired Special Educator. I love children and love to help them reach their fullest potential. I am a firm believer that the parent is the expert on their child(ren) and adhere to the child’s daily routine. I also believe in reading to children from birth on. I love to listen to beginning or struggling readers and help them overcome whatever “block” they may have. The entire world is about READING, so getting the basics is fundamentally essential.
I not looking to be a “babysitter”, but my goal is to form a relationship with the entire family, as I would be with your most treasured possession. It’s important that the relationship of trust is built so that all parties are completely comfortable with one another.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Retired Special Educator with 27 years of experience with children from newborn-high school.

My first nanny job was for 2 little girls that were 11 months apart in age. I began when they were 19 months old and 8months old. The job ended when th children became preschool age and preschool ready.
After a 2 month hiatus, a dual military family contacted me to care for their 3 1/3 month old son. Our bond became so strong that when they both got reassigned to another duty station I moved with them until the child aged.
I am now back in Corpus and looking for another baby who needs a loving nanny.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

As a retired educator, I try to turn every activity in to some type of learning activity. Of course, the activity would be age appropriate to the child(ren). Having taught Special Education for over 25 years, I’m quite versed in taking a central theme and differentiating activities to the appropriate age.
I love going on walks and stopping at a park (if near by) and while playing, pointing out all the different objects, people, things, and activities going on in the park.
Indoor activities for a rainy day would be coloring, painting, play-doh, puzzles,etc.. I also believe that children need to be reinforced with the clean up process. I always say, “If we get it out, we must put it away.”

The most important part about being a nanny...

As a nanny, I am there to be an extension of how the parents would be handling situations throughout the day. From the time I walk in, it should be a seamless transition from parent to nanny and visa versa when the parent returns from work.

My experience with special needs children...

As a retired Special Educator, I have experience with children with different types of learning disabilities, as well as children with severe disabilities, such as Antley-Bixler Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Autism, and Cerebral Palsy, just to name a few.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moment is actually seeing the child(ren) begin to smile when they see me approaching. To me, this show the child(ren) knows they are safe and will be taken care of while in my presence.
