A little bit about me

I’m a retired granny who has taken care of children all my life starting at 12 with a little girl on my street who was an only child. I have taken care of one families newborns until I sent them off to regular school. I now have taken care of three grandkids before and after school for 10 years and now they can drive themselves and I’m unemployed. I volunteer at kids school, do carpool for sports, church, school work, feed kids before parents arrive home from downtown work, laundry, and pets. For my age I am very active and don’t look my age. I have a daughter who is mentally disabled due to my exposure to German measles. Kristen lives at Misericordia in Chicago, she feeds herself, walks, and toilets herself but is non verbal we use her sign language to communicate.

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have raised my teacher friends’ children from 3 months to school age. I have done that for one family through two children, adding in extras on the way. Derek came to me from being abused at sitters to 4 years, he is a doctor. Kristen came to me because she was same age as Dara. We did story time, dance, and play dates with friends we made along the way.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Going for walks, playground, arts & crafts, reading, playing with pets, swimming, zoo, you name it.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Loving what you do and your child. I was fortunate to have 2 healthy children after our Kristen and we would have had more but time was precious.

My experience with special needs children...

I have a daughter that lives at Misericordia in Chicago, IL. Kristen is mentally disabled due to my exposure to Rubella. She is ambulatory, feeds and dresses herself, toilet trained, but nonverbal, we use some sign language.
