I have worked as a teacher in preschools, later to become a director of the school and now have just left the classroom of toddlers in a Montessori school. My first aid and CPR are current and I have passed background checks, fingerprints and have a clean driving record. I am a certified Montessori guide 0-3 and am looking to use my skills in a home environment.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I like to follow the child but also introduce activities that include reading and building vocabulary, arts and crafts, baking, gardening, and teach them how to care for their environment as well as themselves. This can be things such as cleaning up after eating, helping around the house, keeping their belongings tidy and dressing and undressing themselves. I enjoy games, music outside play and swimming. Trips to the library and museums if the family approves.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I like to know that I am helping a family by caring for their child/children lovingly and safely so that mom and dad can go off to work without worrying about them. I like to provide them with a tidy, calm home at the end of their day. They can just spend time with their children and not need to clean the home up after a long day.
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with a few toddlers that needed speech therapy but I can only recommend outside help.
The most important part about being a nanny...
In my classroom of 18 toddlers I had a little girl that greeted anyone opening the door with a sweet "good morning". I also enjoyed engaging with them during circle time with books and activities including songs and musical instruments. The laughter and smiles brought me great joy.
