Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I am an older sibling to 3 younger brothers and a sister. One of which does have autism. Not only did I grow up as a caregiver but it is my passion as an adult. I went from daycare to public schools and love make a difference to the children everyday.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love reading and art activities. Going on walks or go the park is also my favorite when the weather is good. If the children seem interested I can also bake! Messy, but worth the fun! (Don’t worry I clean up too!)
The most important part about being a nanny...
Giving the child another adult to connect and learn with. Children learn best by example and through that they learn social and emotional skills.
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked the past two years in a lvl 2 class room. First ID then autism. I do have experience with visual impairment, a GTube and non verbal. I know limited sign language and have experience with ACC devices.
The most important part about being a nanny...
This isn’t a nanny moment, but one of the kids in my class this year is nonverbal and her preferred method of communication is ASL. She is limited with the hand movements so I like to try to adapt some of the signs for her. And my favorite part? When she learns that new sign and starts to advocate for her self. Watching her be able to express her needs and see the joy when it is understood is why I show up everyday.
