A little bit about me

hey there! i'm karleen — or ms. karlie if we're being formal 😊
i specialize in working with kiddos ages 4 and up, and i genuinely love helping children grow into their personalities while giving parents peace of mind. whether it’s school pick-ups, homework help, creative projects, or after-school routines, i’m all about keeping things structured and fun.
i bring a calm energy, clear communication, and a big heart to every family i work with. i'm the type of nanny who listens, encourages independence, and keeps your child’s unique needs and quirks front and center. bonus points: i’m great at organizing, love a good arts & crafts session, and can keep older kids off their screens (without them even realizing it 😄).
based in nyc, available for part-time or full-time help — and always happy to chat more to see if we’re a good fit!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

i started working at michelle’s family daycare when i was 16 and stayed all the way through may 2025. it gave me a solid foundation in childcare from a young age — helping with everything from playtime to meal prep, nap schedules, diaper changes, and just making sure the kids felt safe, loved, and stimulated every day. i worked with babies, toddlers, and older kids too, so i got used to juggling different needs at once.
outside of michelle’s, i’ve also cared for children through part-time nannying and babysitting for families in my community. each experience helped me get better at building trust, staying pat

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

activities i enjoy doing with children include arts and crafts, story time, and anything that lets them use their imagination. i love setting up fun little projects like painting, building things with blocks, or making simple DIY crafts that keep them engaged. i also enjoy going outside for walks or playground time when possible — fresh air and movement make a big difference. helping with homework or reading together is another favorite, especially when i can turn it into a positive routine that builds confidence. overall, i just like creating a safe, fun environment where kids feel heard, supported, and encouraged to be themselves.

The most important part about being a nanny...

the most important part about being a nanny is making sure the child feels safe, seen, and supported. it’s not just about watching them — it’s about showing up with love, patience, and consistency. kids pick up on energy, so creating a calm, nurturing environment really matters. i think being a nanny means becoming part of a child’s world in a way that helps them grow, feel confident, and know they’re cared for.

My experience with special needs children...

i don’t have a lot of direct experience working with special needs children professionally, but i do have a cousin with special needs who i’ve helped care for from time to time. that experience has taught me a lot about patience, communication, and being mindful of individual needs. while i may not have formal training yet, i’m always open to learning and supporting children in whatever way they need — i believe every child deserves to feel safe, understood, and included.

The most important part about being a nanny...

my favorite nanny moment was probably the first time a little girl i was watching ran up and hugged me out of nowhere just for being there. we had been working on building trust for a while, and that moment felt like everything clicked — she felt safe with me. it was something so small but so genuine, and it reminded me why i love working with kids. those little moments of connection mean everything.

Sophie C. - Seeking Work in Brooklyn

Full-Time Child Care Provider Available in Brooklyn, NY: Sophie C.

Hi I’m Sophie! I have been a consistent neighborhood babysitter since I was 13 years old. Additionally, I worked in an elementary school for 3 years in both gen ed and special ed classrooms. While working at the school, I was a one-to-one, a lunch aide, a substitute, a temporary nurse, and anything else the school needed me to be. I loved that job so much that it inspired me to go back to school to pursue a career as an elementary school counselor. Outside of school and work, I love to sew, read and spend as much time as I can outdoors. Hope to hear from you soon!
