Hi! My name is Katie Herchenroeder, 22, and I recently graduated with my masters in journalism. When I'm not working, I spend my time writing, painting, and trying to find the best thrift deal! I've been babysitting since I was 15 years old, and have spent several summers working as a nanny within multi-child households. I have experience working with 3 children at one time, as my family fosters and hires me for weeks or months at a time. When working with children, I love to explore what their interests and passions are, encouraging them daily. My main hope would be to make your life easier, filling in wherever there is need. This is such a tumultuous time and creating fun moments is paramount. I'm incredibly open to the environment your family is interested in fostering. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

My nuclear family fosters and in the past I have provided childcare on a weekly or monthly basis for multiple children at once. I've also spent two summers working as a nanny for a multi-child family. Additionally, since I was 15 years old, I have worked as a babysitter and a class lead for ages 2-6.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Indoor: crafting, scavenger hunts, baking, board games, safe science experiments, reading, writing, dress up, etc.
Outdoor: volleyball, basketball, baseball, soccer, playground, walks, picnics, etc.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part of being a nanny is being available for the needs of the entire family. I see my role as helping to create a safe space for children to grow up, learn, and explore. I also see my role as helping, especially in these difficult times, to help life go smoothly, whether that means packing a lunch for tomorrow or being available for an impromptu date night on a Saturday evening.

My experience with special needs children...

When I worked as a class lead, there were children with special needs integrated into the group, and I have experience providing specific and empathetic care for their unique needs––from social interaction to meal time to mitigating overstimulation.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite nanny moments (it's hard to choose one!) is when I was working with a family that had three children, from very young to starting middle school. I found immense joy in creating opportunities for all of us to do things that every age could have fun with! To do this, I made up a scavenger hunt with three unique levels of difficulty that allowed them to play together, but be challenged in their own ways :)
