My experience with special needs children...
I worked with children with special needs from the ages of 3-5. I taught my students how to get through their abc's and say their own name. I also did hand-over-hand practice with writing until they were able to trace letters and numbers by themselves. I would use puzzles to focus on speech and counting numbers, as well as music to practice memorization. One of my favorite parts was always our dance breaks, taking 10 minutes to shake it out! On top of having helped teach children with special needs, I also grew up with a younger brother with autism, and learned how to understand him and be there for him when he needed it.
