My main age group has been with toddlers and preschoolers.
Each child is unique, therefore requires different techniques.
The main issue I found in all of them is focus. Once you get there attention you can help them. Finding what creates that focus is key.

The most important part about being a nanny...
I have had many. My favorite is when I've been teaching(feelings, tying shoes, going potty) and you can see it in their eyes when they have made the connection. The smile and hugs are my reward.
