My experience with special needs children...

I was a full time nanny for a 5 year old with autism. I was around for weekly in home therapy and learned a lot of really great gentle parenting skills and patience.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I was making play-dough with one of my kiddos a few hours before his mom came home. I turned around for a couple of seconds and he was trying to remove the cap of the food coloring himself. Before I could lend a hand he had squeezed the bottle and was covered head to toe in blue food coloring. Needless to say his mom and I had a good laugh while I was trying to explain how I turned her son blue and I learned that even one second is to long to have your eyes off a kid when there is food coloring around.
