The most important part about being a nanny...
The idea of nurturing a child is at the heart of a nanny's role. Being able to connect on a deep level, build a safe, loving relationship and offer a stable environment are all important elements of nurturing your child.
My experience with special needs children...
I work with kids with special educational needs, and have found it to be quite the opposite. I'd like to share a few examples with you.
The names are changed but the stories are real.
working with a lad we shall call Luke. Luke has the worst case of dyslexia I have ever seen. Whilst the others are learning to spell specifically and magnificent, Luke is learning cat, dog mum etc.
The teacher hands me Lukes spellings and we work on them together. One morning, we were doing our spellings and the teacher did the normal “Maisey please speak such a word, Charlie please spell that word” He turned to Luke and said “luke, please spell ball.”
Luke replied “I'd rather spell this” and spelled out my name. A name I had never written down for him. He had practised with the other kids as a surprise for me. The whole place erupted in cheers.

The most important part about being a nanny...
I always loved working with children as a babysitter, and worked with many families throughout high school and university, but I didn’t want to be a childcare worker or teacher. Nannying never really crossed my mind as a career option until a job (at a teenage entertainment magazine!) in the field I was studying fell through. I decided to move overseas and work as a live-in nanny to experience a new place, and fell in love with providing one-on-one care in families’ homes
