Hi! I’m Kristen. I am a 28 year old professional who has worked with children for the last 7 years. I bring experience as a preschool teacher, child development specialist and nanny. I feel comfortable working with children of all ages, however my expertise lies with young children, primarily infants through age 4.

After graduating with my B.A. in Child Development, I relocated back to the Peninsula, where I’ve worked as a preschool teacher at a small private preschool for the last two years. I am passionate about hands-on learning, and I’m a firm believer in providing natural and artistic experiences and settings to ensure high quality childcare.

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

•Nannying and Babysitting: I was employed as a nanny for the Conway family. In addition, I was a babysitter for the Reed family. My employers would love to chat with you to provide you feedback on the quality of my care.

•Preschool Teaching: For the last two years, I’ve taught at St. Matthias Preschool in Redwood City, teaching children as young as 2 and as old as 4. Part of my duties are designing age appropriate curriculum and activities, while providing assistance in feeding, toilet training and social learning.

•Early Intervention Services: As a Child Development Specialist, I provided early intervention services in the form of play therapy to children under three years old. I am passionate about the importance of play in every child’s life, and I have gained knowledge and expertise in how to approach play for children from neurodiverse backgrounds.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to do sensory play and natural exploration alongside my little ones at work. A lot of my activities are practice for practical skills, but disguised as play! This includes water play with measuring cups to practice skills like pouring, or following a recipe to make slime so we can practice getting used to tactile experiences while collaborating and practicing following step-by-step directions.

I acquired a significant amount of my teaching experience on the North Coast of California, where redwood forests and beaches are abundant. In those settings, I observed how the natural world can spark children’s fundamental love for learning, and just by allowing children to explore nature and by answering their questions, I found that every day spent exploring the natural world together was a day full to the brim with rich learning experiences that would later go on to foster critical thinking skills and a passion for science.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I want to be one of those nannies that a family thinks back on thinks “We chose the perfect nanny for our family.” I believe that every interaction with a child is building the foundation for the quality of their interactions going forward, whether that is with their peers, teachers or future coworkers. Teaching your child how to make sense of the world, and to form a passion and joy for learning, is what I would consider to be the most importance part of being a nanny. In addition to this—I’d also like to add that making parents feel safe and secure, knowing their child is in the hands of a good caretaker, is a critical component of trustworthy, high quality childcare, and it is very important to me.

My experience with special needs children...

I am very comfortable working with children with special needs. Between [phone number hidden] I worked alongside both children and adults with a variety of disabilities and need levels, including but not limited to autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and apraxia.

In my role as a Child Development Specialist, I conducted play therapy sessions under the supervision of Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists and Feeding Therapists. I understand the sensitivities and complexities that come with meeting the needs of a child with a disability or disorder. It is my life’s passion to make sure all children have their needs met, and feel loved and comfortable in our world. If I were to assist a child living with a disability, disease or disorder, I would feel not only comfortable working with them, but I’d also feel passionate about offering the family relief and security through warm and informed approaches to challenging situations.
