Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
The last family I worked for had three boys ages 3,4 , and 7. The oldest child had autism and was nonverbal. At the start of my stay he was aggressive and would often get mad/upset. I realized he wasn’t mad at me, he was mad at himself for not being able to communicate what he wanted/needed. So I learned basic ASL and I taught it to him and dad. I also made communication cards. After he learned how to use his new resources, he was happy all the time and would give me a big hug when coming over to watch him and his brothers. He was even doing amazing in school now. He is such a smart and loving boy.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Some indoor actives I like to do with the kids are Artwork, Movies, Games, Free play and Baking. Some outdoor activities I like to do with the kids are Going to the playground, Playing in water ( pools, sprinklers, or splash pads), Going on bike rides, Taking nature walks and having a picnic and also Outdoor games ( like hopscotch, red light green light, tag, hide and seek etc.)
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for one child that had autism and was nonverbal. I also cared for one child that had down syndrome.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment was when I was able to help a child learn how to communicate what he wanted/needed thru ASL and communication cards. His parents and other family members were so thankful. They could finally talk and understand their child. This made me feel extremely happy that I was able to help their family.
