A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Kyra (Kee-ruh). I am 22 years old and a senior at UMASS Lowell! I am a Criminal Justice Major and school is a very important part of my life. Outside of school, I am an outgoing, dependable and trustworthy person. I'm passionate about anything I put my mind to and I have a great work ethic. I love working with and helping people (especially children!). I have extensive experience working with children of various ages. I've gained my experience early on from helping friends, family, and coworkers with childcare and later on branching out and turning it into a temporary career while I work towards my future. I've met so many amazing families and children throughout my years of nannying. It is a very rewarding job for me-- there is nothing better than building a nurturing connection with children outside the ones they make with their parents! The best part of the job is making a new friend and having the opportunity to watch them grow into amazing, productive people.

More About Me

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Outdoor activities include Going to the park, Going to Museums, Zoo's, or Aquarium's. Going fruit picking!( Apples, Cherries, Strawberries, etc), going on hikes, going to the beach or swimming at the pool, or even just going to the library or for a short walk! Indoor activities include board games, role-playing games (dress up, action figures/barbies, grocery store, etc), card games, puzzles, baking/cooking, any types of arts and crafts! My favorite and most children's favorites, little science experiments like making slime or volcanoes with baking soda and vinegar.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Being able to be a safe space for someone else's child and building a nurturing and lasting connection with them. It is very hard for parents, as well as children, to put trust into a stranger. I always go above and beyond to make children and parents feel comfortable and make sure they know they will be in good hands. I like to build connections with my children and really get to know them so I can learn to be a mentor and a good role model as well as gain the ability to tell when something is wrong with them without them telling me. whether it be them not feeling well, them being sad or upset about something, being uncomfortable, etc. This is to ensure they feel safe and comfortable around me and aren't afraid to talk to me about something that could be bothering them. Being a role model and making sure the children are well taken care of and happy is the most important part of the job.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of the kids I watched was very intelligent and they used to teach me all kinds of things! I will never forget the time I was just messing around and making different sounds on their piano/keyboard and my kid immediately came up and spent an hour teaching me multiple different, along with challenging songs! and this was off their memory, no sheet music. They were about 5 years old at the time and I just remember being so utterly shocked and unbelievably impressed. Kids are so smart and my favorite moments working with them always stem from them teaching me something I had no clue about! I love it.
