"Kyree has been our sitter on and off when we come to visit family in Memphis. My daughter is autistic, non-verbal, and has partial seizures. She is able to help my daughter when she needs help with basic tasks and making she sure is safe. Also, this is one of the few folks who my daughter will allow to wash, comb and work with her hair since she has sensory issues."

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Drawing/coloring; playing outdoors (basketball, soccer, volleyball, etc. I like exploring anything the kids are interested in); if allowed by the parents, playing games/watching movies the kids are interested in; coming up with fun and creative ways to learn their school material.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny are the connections and memories you make with the children. Of course, following the wishes and schedules a parent set for you and being someone the parents you work for trust matters, but at the end of the day you are spending all your time with the kid(s). You should not only be an adult figure to them, but you should also be someone they feel comfortable around and someone they can open up and be themselves with. The children should trust you almost as much as their parents, because however long you are working with them, you are one of their top supporters.
My experience with special needs children...
I have a younger cousin that has autism that I have been helping care for since she was young. I cared for a boy with autism for the summer of 2019 (I would have worked for them longer, but I had already made a commitment to another family).
From November 2019-March 2020, I was a teacher's assistant at SRVS, a non-profit that specializes in individuals who have special needs.

The most important part about being a nanny...
There was a family I worked for from out of the country. For the eldest boy, certain concepts in subjects like English that were harder for him to grasp and apply to his schoolwork. There was this one time where he had a rough draft of a really important paper due on a day that I wasn't working, and he was having a really tough time with forming his thoughts and applying what his teacher had taught him in class. After a session with his tutor that day, she had completely shot him down and made it out to his mom and me that his paper was hopeless and there was no way he would have done what he needed by the next day. He was really discouraged, and as a nanny I just couldn't accept that, so instead of leaving on time, I got permission from his mom to stay late and really grind his paper out with him. We worked for hours on it and I explained everything to him. Not only did he pass his paper, but I heard from his mom recently that he is has gone from a C average in English to a B+.
