A little bit about me

I am a mom of 2 and have lived in Temecula with my family for just over 8 years. I have 24 years of experience working with special needs. My son is 24 and is high-functioning autistic, ADHD and type 1 diabetic. My other child, my little girl is 8 years old and attends school here in Temecula. My children are my life, but as they are getting older I find that I miss caring for little ones. I began helping out the nursery at my church... and I love it! We care for infants and little ones up to 3 years old. I look forward to when my name will cycle around which is once per month as it is a popular way to serve within our church community.
Caring for children has been something I have loved to do since I was 10. From babysitting on my childhood block where I grew up helping my neighbors get that much needed date-night with their spouse, to my family and all my nieces/nephew, cousins and both my little sisters... to my children. I find this is how I love spending my time.

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I help with the nursery service at my church once a month. The age range varies from newborn up to 3 years old. Our duties vary from intaking infants and toddlers using our computer system which provides parents with a barcode to be presented at pickup. The baby/toddler receives a sticker with his or her name on it which is placed carefully on their back or an area that won't be disturbed.
We provide care for these little ones with whatever they require. It can be anything from playing with age appropriate baby toys, reading and rocking, soothing, diaper changes, snack-time, singing, and clean-up. We also help our toddlers with any potty training assistance they require.

My experience with special needs children...

My son is an adult now and was diagnosed as high functioning autistic, ADHD at 3 years old. He became type 1 diabetic at 11 years old. I gained experience in giving insulin injections and combining meds using a syringe. I also have experience tending children who have asthma and need extra care with inhalers and breathing machines. My daughter also has asthma, which becomes an issue when she becomes ill with a cold or flu which affect her lungs.
I help all children I tend to by learning through play. I figure out how they like to play and help guide them so they hit their milestones. I helped the infant I nanny for to learn to communicate through sign language. He can tell me when he's hungry and thirsty. I don't believe that a baby needs to cry to let us know what their needs are, instead I learn to anticipate their needs and help them communicate so we can meet those needs.
