More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
Throughout my sophomore and senior years of high school, when I babysat a one-year-old baby on a long-term basis and watched him grow into a little boy attending school. After graduation, working as a live-in nanny for a one year old for the summer, helping her learn essential skills like walking, "try again", noticing that same-shaped objects can be different weights, etc.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love going to parks and playing with kids! I'm very big on being outdoors. Make believe games are super fun with children of most ages; playing shop, pretending to be characters from a book, etc. With slightly older kids (7-9) I love baking, building forts, and playing board games among other things. If you have energetic toddlers, I know how obsessed some of them are with using their new mobile abilities. The last 2 year old I babysat and I spent almost an hour chasing each other around his kitchen; he was so worn out, he was sound asleep the entire night. With babies and toddlers around 8 months-2 years, I love seeing how fast they're learning all at once. Skill building and nurturing development are so valuable to me, from learning to walk to learning that the black side of the magnet sticks to the fridge. Kids are all wonderfully unique, I love matching activities to their individual personalities.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Of course, my first priority is always to keep the children safe. After that, to foster their development; pushing them to believe in themselves while knowing how to ask for help, and teaching them skills necessary to build upon as they get older. But truly, my favorite part is to connect with the child. I absolutely adore having a close relationship with a child. The first time a 3 year old told his mom his "friend played with him all day" after I babysat for him the 3rd time, my heart melted. I love seeing a child happy and comfortable, and I adore giving parents a chance to relax and catch their breathes a bit. I feel nannying and babysitting is such an important role; my little sister and I had several nannies growing up, and how they acted with me affected how I turned out greatly. I've kept a stuffed animal for 8 years from my last nanny, who I loved very dearly. That's the kind of caregiver I want to be for your child.
My experience with special needs children...
It started in middle school. I was in a program called Peer Pals; every week I'd have a day to eat lunch with a selected partner who was special ed. She was named Kate, an 8th grader with down syndrome. She was nonverbal, but we were quick friends. Then I began to connect with many members of our school's special ed class; kids with autism, with down syndrome, likely with other needs I wasn't yet educated on. Since then I've made many companions on the spectrum, including my 9 year old godbrother.
If you have a child with special needs, I would love to educate myself on what they require and use my prior knowledge to help them as best as I can. Whether or not it would be a good fit depends of course on the child and their needs. I sincerely hope to be a match for your child!

The most important part about being a nanny...
The first time I got to show the baby I was nannying's family that she could walk. After so much effort in teaching her phrases like "try again" and "stand back up", and reiterating that she can "do hard things" in all aspects of her day to day life, I got to watch her grow increasingly confident in herself and excited to push herself out of her comfort zone. Things she had been curious about before, like walking and buckles, were now things she was eager to ask for help with and learn how to do herself. Teaching her sign language, words, mobility skills and perseverance were such incredible experiences!

Full-Time Nanny Available in Atlanta, GA: Jennifer M.
I provided childcare services for over 10 years as I was raising my babies (which are now successful adults living on their own and starting their families) I most recently cared for my special needs niece who was not potty trained nor could she speak at age 4, she had a tough start but she is on course now actually in school only 1 year behind. I absolutely love children and myself had a rough childhood so when I was pregnant with my son I had no idea what to real parents did so I proceeded to read every book published on child care and parenting from 1993 to 2004. It worked bc my son who has a form of autism, the school system said that he would never hold a job and I would be supporting him for the rest of my life now makes well over 6 figures, has a home paid off on land with his wife (who is a stay home mom) and 3 planned babies and he just purchased a tractor trailer.
