A little bit about me

Hi!
My name is Levi, and I am currently pursuing a PhD in developmental psychology. I have been working with children since my teens, and it is one of my favorite things. I love being able to connect with and show care to children- I think we can learn new things from them everyday, and it is such a rewarding experience. I have experience as a special education paraprofessional to a five year old, as well as being a camp counselor in a more generalized setting with the same age group (though I have also been a more general classroom aid to older age groups). I love playing games with kids and sharing interests with them- it is so cool to be able to watch them do what they are passionate about and see their face light up with a smile while they do it.

The most important part about being a nanny...

is having fun and fostering a good connection with the family you're working with! There is nothing more special than seeing the kid you're working with smile as they learn a new skill / celebrating a win for a goal that they've been working on for a long time, etc. It means a lot to me to be able to help families out and to not only take care of children but to have fun with them. It feels like there's always something new to explore or do when working with children, and it is genuinely so awesome to be able to do that on a day to day basis.

My experience with special needs children...

I was a special education paraprofessional for a 5 year old girl, and learned how to use an IEP and many other tools to help her adjust and thrive in her environment. I am skilled in helping children with emotional regulation skills, helping them identify what coping mechanism help them and when to implement them, as well as accommodating them so that they are able to thrive in day-to-day situations. I am very patient, and understand that what is most important is to be kind and empathetic when working with children that may need a bit more focused care.

The most important part about being a nanny...

there was this one girl I worked with that really dreaded starting her schedule in the mornings. We decided to make it fun- for example, to start off the day, we would dance to a song on youtube for ten minutes- and we would plan the day together with a schedule (we would use unicorn stickers, her favorite animal, to mark off stuff we had done) so she felt like she had more control and felt less anxiety overall. It was really awesome for us to learn together what worked best for her, and to be able to turn something she dreaded into something she really enjoyed.

Mick R. - Seeking Work in Bellingham

Babysitter Available in Bellingham, WA: Mick R.

I'm Mick! I just graduate from college at Fairhaven, where I did an interdisciplinary degree that combined human rights, genocide studies, and women's studies, and plan to start graduate school in the UK in the Fall! In the meantime, I'm looking for some summer work.
I grew up with two younger brothers, one almost 8 years younger than me, and took care of them a lot when we were younger. I also worked with children when I was a teenager teaching dance classes. I am particularly passionate about working with neurodivergent children. I'm neurodivergent myself, and overtime, I've developed a lot of skills to improve my own mental health, something I'd be happy to talk to you more about. I love being outside, watching sports (I like the Seattle Mariners and watching Formula 1 and other kinds of racing in particular), and am always down to do something creative.
I have one cat, Mia, and I grew up with 2 dogs!
