Hello families! My names Leylani or Lani for short. I come from a huge family so I’ve always been surrounded by children, always naturally falling into the role of a nurturer. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

After 7 years at the Youth Division YMCA I’m currently working as a paraprofessional at the Arnone Elementary School in Brockton Massachusetts. I work in an EI classroom so all my kids are either on the spectrum, have ADHD or are on IEPs. On or off the spectrum my goal remains the same for all children, creating a safe space for them to be themselves so they can have the confidence it takes to get through life.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy any and all activities. While working at the YMCA I was in charge of creating curriculum and leading activities. And it’s truly my strong suit. I love seeing children enjoy the activities I poured my heart into planning. I mainly enjoy crafts, small baking activities and STEM. I did start a dance team while at the y so I’d be willing to do activities surrounding that if the child showed any interest in that.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My answer to this question will forever be the same. I always want children to see me as a safe space. A no judgement zone. They can come to me and be their selves loudly and proudly. I hope to build them the confidence they need to navigate through the rest of their life. And as they grow older I hope the bond I may form with them will stick with them and keep them warm eternally. Nothing but happy memories.

My experience with special needs children...

I work Monday-Friday in a classroom with kids on the Autism Spectrum, severe ADHD and/or behavioral disorders.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Making one on one connections with kids is a huge piece to the puzzle that is child care. Unfortunately, I’ve only worked in classroom/camp-like settings, but I’ve never let that stop me from making those connections. One of my favorite memories of this was a personal moment I had with one of the girls on the dance team I formed at the YMCA. We had a performance coming up and she was worried her mom wouldn’t be able to do her hair the way we planned or get an outfit similar to the rest of the girls. The day of the show I came in with new hair supplies and a new outfit I had bought for her the night before. I did her hair for her and the smile on her face when she looked in the mirror still warms my heart to this day. It also brought tears to mom’s eyes at pickup that day as she had been so busy working she was glad to see her daughter taking care of. I’ll never forget that day and the fulfillment I felt. I still keep in contact with them to this day.
