I have three years of early childhood education experience in the school setting. My experience in education was amazing when it comes to learning effective discipline techniques that kids seem to receive and understand well. It has also helped me learn how to communicate better with young children in a large setting.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Indoor activities that I like are painting, drawing and anything that has to do with crafts! I also love board games and card games. Outdoor activities I love are hiking, biking and swimming!
The most important part about being a nanny...
Consistency! It's important for children to know what to expect. I believe kids thrive in an environment where they know what to expect at all times. I also believe it's extremely important to be consistent in the way you model the behaviors you desire them to have. Kids learn by watching you, so if you are consistent in modeling the desired behavior, you are more likely to receive the desired outcome.
My experience with special needs children...
I have a younger sister with Down syndrome that I have cared for throughout my life. I also have had students with both Down syndrome and autism in my classroom experience.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I love the moments when nannying where your nanny kids remind you of what it feels like to be a kid, whether that be dancing in the rain, talking in a silly cowboy voice, or just being silly in general. I also love the moments when you are able to help a nanny kid through a difficult situation. Being able to be there for a child when they need you the most is extremely rewarding.
