My experience with special needs children...
I was a nanny for a toddler who had special needs. She was in the process of being diagnosed with a specific type of special needs. I nannied her for 3 years. I attended speech therapy and gymnastics class with her. I also shadowed her in preschool because she had difficulty with her balance. She still had the needs of a typical child: love, patience and understanding.
I was a substitute special needs para at an elementary school. I attended to children of various diagnoses, including ASD, ADHD, and non-verbal children.
I also have a great-niece in my household who is on the Autism spectrum. She is in elementary school.
