I was a nanny for a little over a year, and I have seven younger siblings. My youngest siblings are three, six, and nine currently.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Outdoor exploring and quiet indoor activities are my favorite. I enjoy splashing in puddles or pretending the grass in the backyard is a jungle for animal toys. Puzzles and other activities are great for cognitive development, and are fun too.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important thing is that you have to treat children like they are your own, but keep in mind that they are not your kids. Eventually, you will leave the job and the children will grow up, and you have to learn to let go.
My experience with special needs children...
I have two younger siblings on the autism spectrum. I also have experience caring for children with extreme separation anxiety, shyness, anger issues, and difficulty communicating.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I tend to say, "I suppose," frequently in response to questions, such as, "Can I have a cookie? I finished my lunch." The three-year-old I nannied once said it back to me when I asked her if she wanted to go outside, and I burst out laughing.
