My name is Joanie. I’m 66 yrs young. I love children. I have 2 grown children and 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. When I was younger I helped my mother with my four younger siblings. I would go around the neighborhood and ask parents if I could bring their children to my home to play school. I was the town’s babysitter. As an adult I watched several children for working parents. I also have an associates degree. I’ve also taken several educational courses in child development. I had a homeschool for almost 20 yrs where 18 children came to my home to learn. I also taught several different ages in Sunday school. I work very well with children that have learning disabilities. I believe that children are to be cherished because they are a special gift from God.

My experience with special needs children...

I was doing sub. work for the public school system. I was responsible for a class room of 10 special needs children. Each child had different needs. Being that I wasn't given any instructions I created my own lesson plans for each day. I decided to teach the basics of life situations. To the children they thought we were just playing but I knew different. We "played" store. I brought in little items for them to buy with play money. They learned how to compare prices, count out money to buy and what was remaining. They were taught how to answer a phone and take a message. I brought in lunch and taught them to set a table and clean up after.

The most important part about being a nanny...

As a special education paraprofessional for a beautiful blind child she constantly asked.... What you got Ms. Joanie? After awhile I answered, I got you Babe. She asked Really? I stated yes, I got you Babe. She said, Good, because I got you Babe!
