My experience with special needs children...
Growing up I helped raise my cousin who has an intellectual disability, this is where my love of helping others came from. I started a buddy program in elementary school where each student in the ESE classes were paired with one or two students who would spend time with them, eat with them, and build a relationship with each other. In high school I ran the best buddies program, I also coached and played with four different Special Olympics sports teams. Throughout high school I took extra classes online over the summer to allow my schedule to open up for me to be a TA in the ESE classrooms through the school year. I also completed an internship at an elementary school working alongside an occupational therapist.
