A little bit about me

Hello!
My name is Mallory. I have worked as a nanny/child caretaker for several years now for a variety of different families. I am an enthusiastic individual and always look for fun ways to engage with the kids that I care for. I love to sing, maybe dance a bit and stay on my toes. I connect with kids easily and always try to entertain their ideas, I believe it is important to let a child be creative and play along. I focus on the current needs of the child while being adaptable to and following the expectations of parents, including any implemented schedules. I believe communication is crucial and always remain transparent with the families that I work with.
I am a respectful, responsible and overachieving individual. My first priority will always be the kids I care for, however, I am willing to help around the home.
My primary language is English, but I am proficient in Spanish and more than happy to utilize the language or teach!

If you see fit, I would love to be in contact!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Aside from my professional care-taking jobs, I have quite a bit of experience working with kids. My most previous job was in children’s entertainment, where I led games and face-painted. It was a great way to work with kids from newborns up to 10 years old, and from varying backgrounds. Adapting to individual temperaments and interests in a short amount of time is something I am very confident in. I also have experience through volunteer work at children’s centers, the primary language being Spanish. Beyond these experiences I have grown up in big families with relatives having children of their own.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to do what the kids love to do (as long as it is safe). I will do arts and crafts, run around, play make-believe, bake something or even paint fingernails. To me it is important to validate whatever way in which the kids want to show their creativity. It is my opinion that my job is not only to keep the kids safe and happy but curate a space where they can be themselves and feel encouraged to express their needs.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is creating a space that allows the kids to be creative and comfortable being themselves. Ensuring their safety and meeting basic needs is a given, however, a child might not be hungry if they are feeling anxious around their nanny. In order to address their own needs, the child must first feel safe. If a child is comfortable and happy, everything else follows. Staying active is also very important to me, I want to participate as much as I can. A nanny cannot be a silent observer.

My experience with special needs children...

I do have experience in special needs care. I am a very patient caretaker and I am always looking to learn. In moments of difficulty I find it important to assess the situation from the child’s point of view, meeting them wherever they are and finding a solution accordingly. Further, the main focus for me will be communication with the family, learning exactly how to best care for their child, adapting to the necessary procedures quickly.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I tend to get along very well with the kids I care for. I think my favorite moments are when they run up and greet me at the door or hug me goodbye. It is in these moments that I feel like I have done my job correctly, having given the kids a sense of comfort while being around me. It can be a scary thing for a child to welcome someone new into their space, because of this I try to ease the process as much as possible.
I previously cared for a toddler that was very apprehensive around new people, she would shy away and cry for her mom. It was a big accomplishment for me when she excitedly welcomed my presence. I began to see her turn to me when she was sad and asking me to read her a story. I remember the first time she smiled to see me when she woke up from her nap. It was so special.

Sophie C. - Seeking Work in Brooklyn

Full-Time Child Care Provider Available in Brooklyn, NY: Sophie C.

Hi I’m Sophie! I have been a consistent neighborhood babysitter since I was 13 years old. Additionally, I worked in an elementary school for 3 years in both gen ed and special ed classrooms. While working at the school, I was a one-to-one, a lunch aide, a substitute, a temporary nurse, and anything else the school needed me to be. I loved that job so much that it inspired me to go back to school to pursue a career as an elementary school counselor. Outside of school and work, I love to sew, read and spend as much time as I can outdoors. Hope to hear from you soon!
