Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Indoor activities I enjoy doing with children include: coloring, reading, playing with toys and coming up with fun games. I was an only child so I spent countless hours playing alone, I love giving children an outlet to show me how their brains are working, watching how they see the world and the excitement they feel when they can show someone makes my day!
Outdoor activities: I love letting kids be kids! I grew up on a farm, I was allowed to run and play in the dirt and on trampolines because that’s what children should be doing. I’m not someone who is going to hand your child an I-pad or a phone. I will go on hikes, to the park, lake, pool, or wherever YOU feel comfortable with me going. I loved being around animals and if that is something your child is doing, I am more than happy to be right there with them. I also played lots of sports; I will play soccer, baseball, tag, or go fishing! I’m down for any and all things outdoors!

The most important part about being a nanny...
I think there is a lot of “most important parts” about being a nanny. I think that who I am as a person and the families I am caring for need to align so I can properly care for their child when they are not there. I also need to be trusted to care for someone’s child, the most important part of their life, that is a HUGE honor and responsibility! I think it’s incredibly important that the children are happy and content in my presence, I know it won’t be all the time, children are children! But overall, I want them to be happy and enjoy their time with me as much as I enjoy my time with them! I am someone who likes to form a connection and a bond with the family I am caring for so I feel it’s important that I am allowed to not only bond with the children, but also with the parents. I want to do my best to care for your children, so if we could establish a relationship and communicate effectively, I feel that is very important!
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of the most fulfilling moments I’ve had as a nanny was recently. I was helping the 12 year old boy that I nanny with homework. He has extreme ADD/ADHD, so homework and focusing can be challenging. He dislikes writing and reading, but we sat down and went over his homework for about 30 minutes. I explained it to him one way and he didn’t quite understand what I was saying, so I thought how would I understand this as a 12 year old? (I also have ADHD and wasn’t diagnosed until much later). Once I explained it in a different way, he got the biggest eyes, and his mouth dropped open and he said “wait so that’s what it’s asking for when I have to connect the two paragraphs? That’s SO EASY!” He got the rest of the answers right on the first try! I felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and I was so proud of him! That’s been my favorite moment so far, helping him truly understand a concept and apply it to learning a skill!
