A little bit about me

Hey! I’m Marika. I’m originally from Washington but my family moved to Florida several years ago. I’m the second of nine children and I love working with kids. I have lots of experience with babysitting, as well as experience working as a live-in nanny for a super awesome family in Florida! I moved away for school and started nannying for another family with five children who I was with for two years. I was super close with both families and they were even able to come to my wedding! Now, my husband and I live in Iowa where I currently work at a daycare. I love the daycare, but I think I work better as a nanny, and I miss being able to give kids more one-on-one attention, which is so crucial for their development.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been in childcare for four years now. I started out as a live-in nanny for one year, then I was a nanny for a different family for two years, and I have just had my one-year work anniversary at a daycare in the area!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I would often take the kids in my care to parks, stores, soccer and gymnastics practice, the trampoline park, and on walks. I would drive them to and from school, and even took them to amusement parks once or twice. We always had a blast! After this past year of working at a daycare, I think I would include more arts and crafts activities in my nannying. I also think reading is a super fun activity to do with kids, as well as being educational.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of the most important things about being a nanny, if not the most important, is the positive emotional impact you are able to have on the children in your care. I strive to be a positive influence every day for the kids at my work and I do my best to make their experience at daycare as enjoyable and enriching as possible.

My experience with special needs children...

I had a little boy at my daycare who had Downs Syndrome and he was super sweet. Unfortunately, I don’t have much experience other than that, although I wouldn’t mind at all getting more. I want to be useful to whoever hires me and I am happy to learn and grow in my role as a caregiver.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite things about being a nanny is just the funny and adorable things kids say! For instance, a little girl at my daycare was sitting outside eating snack and I was sitting next to her. It was pretty windy, so she turned to me and said, “Don’t worry Miss Rika, I’ll hold on so you don’t fly away!” It was the cutest thing! I love the kids I get to care for and I love seeing how their minds work, they are so creative!
