I have worked with children aged 3-7 years old as a baby sitter during high school and my undergraduate and high school years. I have also worked as a para educator in public schools. For one year, I worked as a para educator for preschool age children ages 3-5 years old. For one year I also worked as a para educator for elementary age children 5-10 years old. I also completed my student teaching for my special education teaching certificate that year, where I gained experience working with student with academic needs, behavioral needs and functional life skills needs. During the last year, I have worked as a special education teacher with students age 5-10 years old. I love creating engaging activities for students and children to learn and have fun while doing it!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love playing outdoor games with students like tag, going to parks, exploring nature by going on bug or plant walks, and playing with bubbles or chalk. I think it’s so important for kids to play outdoors and learn about nature. I also love teaching and playing different card games and board games with children. I also love spending unstructured playtime with kids, following their lead in play and finding opportunities for learning while they use their imaginations! Cooking and making kid friendly foods have also been a fun special activity I enjoy leading. I have helped students make their own ice cream from scratch, pudding/jello snacks and decorated cookies and brownies together.
My experience with special needs children...
I have extensive experience working with children with disabilities as a special education teacher. Currently, I am an elementary special education teacher. I mainly work with students with significant disabilities as a life skills teacher in a self-contained classroom. I also worked with many students who have behavior and self regulation needs. Additionally, I have worked as a special education para educator for the past two years working with children with disabilities. This gave me special experience supporting children in daily life and in school, helping with and teaching bathroom skills, and supporting students with sensory and regulation needs.
