More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I taught Preschool and Pre-K on and off for 11 years. I also provided babysitting and family assistant services in previous jobs (transporting the children, grocery shopping, tidying the house, folding laundry, and managing the nightly bedtime routine.)

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Reading books, simple snacks (ants on a log, fruit kabobs, etc.), baking, art projects, nature walks, and visits to libraries, children's museums, and playgrounds.

The most important part about being a nanny...

To me, the most important thing about being a nanny is making sure that the child or children I'm caring for feel seen, heard, and respected. When children know what the rules, routine, and expectations are, it creates a sense of security and safety. It's also equally important to respect the parent(s) wishes regarding discipline, routines, etc.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with children with Dyspraxia (poor muscle development, challenges with balance and fine motor movement) and Anorectal Malformation (non-functional anus at birth.) Both of these children were in Pre-K Classes that I taught, and in both cases, I researched different ways to work with and support their specific needs. I also had regular conversations with their parents and support team (Occupational Therapists, etc.) to be sure we were all on the same page.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I used to take babysit for a little girl in San Francisco who, like me, loved picture books. I made a point to go to the library every week to check out new books to read to her. I told her once that I would read her as many books as she could carry to her bed, and she was smart enough to make two trips. I read her ALL the books I brought (25 in total) and she fell asleep with a big smile on her face!
