I have had a teaching career in both preschool and elementary classrooms over a 16 year span and 7 additional years of full time private nanny/ household manager experience. My husband of 25 years and myself, have raised 2 children of our own. Caring for children from infancy through upper elementary has been my lifelong passion. Facilitating a safe, creative environment for children to thrive while maintaining an open communication and partnership with parents is my professional goal. Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy just getting down on the floor or around the table playing and exploring with them as they learn about the world around them. This could be through a pretend tea party with their stuffed animals, building blocks making pillow and blanket forts, craft making, reading stories and playing outside. With older children, playing card or board games, guiding through homework, going on a bike ride and attending local events at parks, etc… as parents gain my trust for local outings.

The most important part about being a nanny...

First and foremost is the safety of the children with whom I am charged. I want to make sure that I am collaborating with the parents for the well being of their family. Children should observe a mutual respect between their parents and nanny in the daily activities of the household in order to feel safe boundaries. I want to facilitate a balance in the children’s environment of joyful/fun moments along with purposeful, age appropriate responsibilities to be accomplished regularly.

My experience with special needs children...

I grew up with a brother with developmental disabilities and helped care for him while our parents worked. I also volunteered in my middle/high school years at a neighborhood special needs school.
As a classroom teacher, I have had students in both my preschool and elementary classrooms with varying degrees of ADD/ADHD. I am sensitive to individual needs and work actively with the parents in their daily structures and activities of daily living.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Some of the best memories I have in working with children over the years are generally the times that we’ve started out in some physically engaging activity such as a simple walk around the neighborhood, building forts, playing ball outside, playing on a playground or the beach… and then relaxing with a good book together and enjoying a healthy snack. Kids will always have a funny anecdote to share which usually spurs my creativity in facilitating the next learning moment for them.
