I have over 8 years of babysitting experience caring for kids of all ages, including babies, teenagers, and large families. I also have a two year old daughter of my own and have loved every one of her stages, from newborn to active toddler.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love taking kids on walks, bike rides, or visiting the park so they can get energy out. Arts and crafts are a big love of mine and I love sharing that with kids as well. I am a certified lifeguard and would be happy to take kids to a pool or splash pad if that is something their parents are comfortable with. Or we can stay at the house and have fun there!
The most important part about being a nanny...
Keeping kids safe is the most important, but providing them with positive attention and supporting their interests by offering engaging activities to participate in is so important for their development!
My experience with special needs children...
I volunteered with children in an elementary special needs classroom for two years. I also volunteered for a skiing program in Utah with teens with autism, and have a lot of experience working with adults with autism and other intellectual and physical disabilities. My degree in therapeutic recreation lead me to a lot of these experiences and learning a lot about working with individuals who have special needs.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I was taking care of a three year old boy who was pushing and being mean to my daughter, so I became extra intentional about giving him positive attention for what he was doing well. I was amazed at how quickly he turned those behaviors around and started being sweet to her. It was nearly instant, and a night and day difference. I loved seeing him work through negative emotions and turn around poor behavior as I offered him understanding and kindness.
