A little bit about me

Hi! I'm Mike, a current student at Hastings Highschool, 17 years old, and have been babysitting my siblings (ages 0-10 at the time of babysitting) since the age of around 10. I've watched children overnight, and have experience watching my youngest sibling alone ( from ages 1-3, 2020-current) while preparing meals, doing chores, and tracking activities/scheduling throughout the day. I've taken an Early Childhood and Child Development course and have been CPR certified, although I am in need of renewing my CPR certification. I'm flexible with my schedule, and I would be able to work anytime on weekends and after the time of 4PM on weekdays due to conflicts with school.

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I've been involved as a guest/volunteer in preschools overseeing activities, and I've had intermittent experience in babysitting of kids up to the age of 10. I've had the most experience in babysitting ages 0-3 in the past 3 years, and have babysat overnight and in periods up to 5 hours.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Involved meal prep (allowing them to choose between 2-3 options if available, helping prepare where they can), outdoor sports (soccer, throwing football around, basketball, volleyball, etc.) and blowing bubbles or using the sprinkler for younger kids in warm weather, coloring/arts and crafts, sidewalk chalk, activity sheets (color by number, I- spy, etc.)

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part is to be aware of the child's needs in the moment and to know how aware they are of the situation. You have to keep them involved in the activity, and you need to ensure they understand on some level if you are asking them something or instructing them to do something. If the child doesn't understand the situation, then they won't understand their outcomes or circumstances, and a mutual understanding on some level helps develop trust between a child and their caregiver.
