Supporting children and their families brings me great joy, and I truly enjoy the work I do in this realm.

I approach work with kids from an education/development focused mindset... (A Montessori method hybrid I prefer in many situations, but am flexible to work with the family, of course, to determine direction.)

Healthy lifestyle is important to me, and extends to young people in my care. I prioritize for kids: nutrition, active play (outdoors as much as possible!), and a balance of quiet time with books, music and other age-appropriate activities.

I adore animals, and enjoy working in homes/properties with pets.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have done a variety of care work with humans of all ages: infants, toddlers, elementary ages to teens and even a bit with special-needs young adults and senior citizens.

My favorite child care job to date was working as a live-in nanny for a toddler, where I became dubbed: the “potty training whisperer” by his doctor mom. My job was pretty simply to keep him safe and support his exploration and play. We spent a significant amount of our time together stomping in snow/rain puddles all over their lovely mountain town.

I have stayed onsite in family homes with school-aged children when parents need to travel without their kids.

I have done some substitute teaching, including special education.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I like to spend time outdoors with children as much as possible!
Examples: Laying in the grass watching clouds in the sky, exploring insect life, taking walks/hikes (with attention to the local flora/fauna and geology of a location), getting dirty in mud and puddles, reading in the shade of a tree, planting/tending a garden, chalk drawing on the sidewalk... endless fun.

When circumstances encourage us to move inside, books and music and arts/crafts provide plenty of different opportunities to play and explore. Quiet time to refocus is also important. Regular visits to the library fill the calendar.

I like including children in meal preparations in order to provide education about food and where it comes from, nutrition, science, and also to teach them true "helping" skills.

One of my favorite activities with a 10-year-old boy was helping him clean the family’s backyard chicken coop!

The most important part about being a nanny...

I like being of service to a family in such a way that I act as an extension and compliment to their family dynamic. I believe that it really does "take a village" to raise a child, and feel that the more good people who love, care for and positively influence young people along their path, the better.

I take child care work very seriously. Although I am lighthearted and fun in my approach with kiddos, I never forget that I am entrusted with caring for their parents most precious “possession.”
As a responsible, mature &
level-headed adult, with life experience to draw upon, I find that families feel confident in my ability to provide a safe and protective situation for their child(ren.)

I am also experienced in the area of household management, and able to compliment child care work with “family assistant” tasks as determined. If I can take on some chores and allow parents more time to focus on their child(ren), so much the better.

My experience with special needs children...

Nanny for young child being assessed for ADHD; mentor/companion/job coach roles with Neurodivergent young adults; substitute in Special Education classroom.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Some of my favorite nanny moments were with a very small boy who loved music of all sorts. Little Drew was a toddler just starting to “toddle” around on his own, but even then he/we would dance the happiest little dance to Louis Prima's fun tunes. The pure joy of these moments was unforgettable!

Kids say the best stuff!
Another small sidekick, Cyrus, would be talking up a storm, some of it silly made-up babbling.
I would say to him in such moments: “Cy, you don’t say…”
And he would respond:
“Oh, Misty, but I do…I do say!”
He was not yet 24 months, but already knew that we were joking together…and he was funny in his own right. :)
