My experience in working with children started in high school volunteering in the Head Start program and church daycare. I was a nanny for many years and now I am currently teaching at the Early Learning Center for early childhood at a school district.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love to incorporate a sensory based learning that helps children thrive and learn about the world around them. I also believe process art is important for children's creativity and expression. Incorporating different play with blocks, simple puzzles, books, songs and outdoor play is essential for a child's development and activities I really enjoy engaging in with them. Taking nature walks and making crafts is always a fun activity to keep them engaged and entertained.
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with non-verbal and autistic children and have successfully helped them reach milestone goals. I like to teach children basic sign language so it can facilitate their communication until they are able to use verbal communication, which is effective in reducing their frustration when trying to communicate with others. I have taken the Skill building Social Emotional Sign Language training from Region 4 and successful completed it and received my certificate.
