A little bit about me

I am a caring, dependable, and passionate childcare professional with over 10 years of experience working with children, including children with special needs. I have a background in early childhood education and I am currently completing my coursework in the field, with just one class left to finish my early childhood education program. I also have experience working with both children and adults with a wide range of behaviors and disabilities, which has strengthened my patience, understanding, and ability to support individuals with diverse needs. I have worked as a nanny, childcare provider, and Direct Support Professional, allowing me to develop strong skills in communication, child development, and creating safe, nurturing environments. I love planning fun and educational activities, encouraging creativity, and building meaningful connections with the children. My goal is to provide families with dependable care while becoming a positive and trusted part of their child’s life.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

In addition to my nanny experience, I have worked in childcare, providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children of various ages. I have experience supporting children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development through age-appropriate activities and routines. I have also worked as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), where I cared for individuals with developmental disabilities by assisting with daily living skills, behavior support, medication reminders, transportation, and community involvement. These roles have strengthened my patience, communication, problem-solving, and caregiving skills while reinforcing my commitment to providing compassionate, dependable care.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

enjoy doing a variety of fun and educational activities with children that encourage learning, creativity, and confidence. Some of my favorite activities include arts and crafts, reading books, sensory play, outdoor play, walks to the park, music and dancing, puzzles, building with blocks, imaginative play, science experiments, baking simple recipes, and age-appropriate educational games. I also enjoy helping with homework, practicing letters, numbers, and colors with younger children, and planning activities that support each child’s developmental stage and individual interests. My goal is to create a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment where children can learn, explore, and have fun.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is building a trusting, loving, and supportive relationship with both the children and their family. A nanny is not only responsible for providing care, but also for creating a safe environment where children feel valued, understood, and encouraged to learn and grow. I believe it is important to be patient, dependable, attentive, and intentional with each child while respecting their individual personality, needs, and developmental stage. Being a nanny is about becoming a positive influence in a child’s life and helping them feel safe, confident, and loved.

My experience with special needs children...

I have over 10 years of experience supporting children and adults with special needs in both childcare and Direct Support Professional (DSP) roles. My experience includes working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental disabilities, and behavioral challenges. I have provided compassionate, individualized care, assisted with daily living activities, implemented behavior support strategies, encouraged independence, and maintained a safe, structured, and supportive environment. This experience has strengthened my patience, adaptability, communication skills, and ability to meet each individual’s unique needs while building trusting, positive relationships with them and their families.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite nanny moments was watching the children grow and reach new milestones while knowing I was a part of their journey. I especially loved the everyday moments—reading together, helping them learn new skills, celebrating their accomplishments, and seeing their personalities develop. After caring for one family for over 5 years, it was very rewarding to see the bond we created and know that I helped provide a safe, loving, and supportive environment during such important years of their childhood. I recently watched two children I use to nanny for graduate from middle school and start High School. Those experiences reminded me why I love working with children and the positive impact a caring adult can have in a child’s life.

Shannon S. - Seeking Work in Independence

Full-Time Nanny Available in Independence, OH: Shannon S.

Hello!

My name is Shannon! I am 25 years old and just looking to move to Ohio from Colorado! (probably around end of June/July), just trying to get a jump start on jobs.

I have been working with FirstArt Academy for 10 years! I started off with just summer care and before/after school care and grew to love being around littles. My current position is enrichment teacher, meaning I get to see all my littles from ages 2-6! I get to do art, music, and yoga with them. I have developed amazing relationships with the families at my school which makes leaving so tough. I still have kids that I had when they were 3/4, 10 years later, writing to me and coming to visit.

I have an immense amount of love for littles and love being a part of the journey of life with them. My ultimate goal is to make sure your child/children always feel loved and safe.
