A little bit about me

First off, I am a big kid at heart so I love to play. I have been volunteering at my church with the toddlers and elementary school kids for the last 3 years as well as babysitting my friend's 1 year old son for about a week at a time on and off. I have my own car and I used to be CPR/First aid certified and looking to get that redone ASAP. If it matters, I'm a UCLA grad (from way too long ago). I am married for about 10 years but no kids of my own unfortunately. I am comfortable around pets and willing to do light housekeeping and cooking. Looking forward to meeting you!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been volunteering with my church helping with the toddlers and elementary school kids for the past 3 years. I also have babysat for my friend's 1 year old for about a week at a time on and off for the last few months. Additionally, I work with junior high and high school kids in foster care through a ministry at my church 2x a month. Before that, I used to be a camp counselor and babysat when I was in high school.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love board or card games, imagination play, athletic or sports activities like play catch, kicking balls, etc, doing puzzles, arts & crafts, drawing, Lego, and can also help with educational activities (UCLA graduate).

The most important part about being a nanny...

Treating the kid with the appropriate level of respect and care. Not as equal but not from the severe "adult-child" unequal dynamic I grew up with either. I am a fan of the "gentle parenting" paradigm and teaching and respecting kids and their boundaries. And so, getting down to their level whenever possible while keeping them safe is a top priority.

My experience with special needs children...

I have some experience being around kids with autism (friends with 2 elementary school kids and another with older kids) but it has been in a hanging out with friends but also with the kids and including them as much as possible extent. I also work for teenagers in foster care through my church and many are neuro-divergent. I have managed ADHD but this gives me lots of empathy. I will start providing consistent respite work for a family with a young teenager with autism this summer.

The most important part about being a nanny...

With every experience I have had with kids, that first time after they switch from nervous and scared to comfortable and happy and they greet you with a smile versus hesitancy is pretty great because that means I have earned their trust at that point.
