A little bit about me

Hello! I am Rachael, a senior at Washington Township High School applying for the Child Development Associates degree upon graduation. I have always loved kids, and hope to become an elementary school teacher in the future! I also want to study special education. I have taken childhood education courses at school where I teach preschoolers a few times a week, and volunteered and taught a fifth and second grade class at an elementary school. I am also CPR certified and have a driver’s license. Aside from babysitting, I can tutor core subjects, and also French. I can also work with children musically because I play the piano and violin, and I dance! For me, working with kids is uplifting and energizing, and I love being a part of their educational and personal growth.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I took the Child Development course at school, where we learned about health and safety in a classroom, cognitive development in children, and made lesson plans before teaching preschool children throughout the year. Taking this class made me eligible to take Foundations of Early Childhood Education and Teaching Methods - Early Childhood Education, a double period class where we set up a preschool classroom and go into more depth about lesson planning. We are able to apply for the CDA with this class. We get to work with the children daily, and we even go on their field trips with them! With the Junior Achievement program, I was able to teach a fifth grade class, as well as a second grade class for a day. At Chez Dance Studio, I assisted teachers, which meant I would take attendance, get class started, lead warm-ups, demonstrate choreography, and help the kids backstage at recital. I have also worked with the girls in the youth cheerleading program in Washington Township.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I really enjoy playing games and making crafts with children. I love being able to see the creativity and strategies that the kids have. I also like building forts, playing pretend, legos and building blocks, making friendship bracelets, and drawing.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny or babysitter is that you have patience, problem solving skills, and that you are educated about health and safety. You must also be able to get where you need to go on time and be respectful towards the kids, parents, and their house.

My experience with special needs children...

I am a part of the peer outreach club at school, which is a club for those with and without disabilities. This club allows students to participate in events, activities, and community service opportunities.
